Mercedes have two batteries. The primary battery and the auxiliary battery. The auxiliary battery is used to help run your cars accessories. It is rare that the car will not run, so you should be able to drive it normally, but some accessory functions may not work.
Even if the auxiliary battery may have failed you may notice that your car starts and runs fine.
You can typically drive the car if you stuck away from home. We don’t advice that you continue to drive the car with a failed auxiliary battery. It is a concern if the main battery fails. I thought I would give some information on this battery as information appears to be scarce on the forums. E3(W212) Aux Battery Replacement. I keep getting an Auxiliary Battery Malfunction warning on my screen.
Others say in the trunk, behind the rear seat. Some say under the dash. Where is the battery located? The aux battery is no where near as big as the main battery , just a small box with cables attached.
The link that Skylaw provided will give you more info than you likely wanted to know about it. The main battery is located under the carpeted panel at the very rear center of the trunk. It say auxiliary battery malfunction in the dashboard.
Any help is most appreciated. Car is W2Avantgarde, still under warranty. Like every other electronic module or part it has life-time and eventually it will wear out and fail at some point. Is it safe to drive with auxiliary battery malfunction ? Thought this was a big deal. Got Auxiliary Battery Malfunction on my dash yesterday.
Today, in addition, there was a message that read Change Key Battery. Thanks in advance for any info or advice. When the main battery has moderately low voltage, the vehicle computer connects the two batteries, allowing the main battery to return to normal, while charging the auxiliary battery at the same time.
Hi, just a update on the situation.
I have had a new battery installed on Monday and Wednesday the battery is dead again!
