Epicyclic gear train

What does epicyclic gear mean? An epicyclic gear train (also known as planetary gear ) consists of two gears mounted so that the centre of one gear revolves around the centre of the other. A carrier connects the centres of the two gears and rotates to carry one gear , called the planet gear or planet pinion , around the other, called the sun gear or sun wheel.

In simple, compound and reverted gear train , gear shaft axis is fixed or not movable but in epicyclic gear trains , the shaft axes are not fixed means the shaft axis is movable. EPICYCLIC GEAR TRAIN Gears BY:  KAMAL SIHAG.

Types of epicyclic gear train Simple epicyclic gear trains. Compound epicyclic gear trains. In a planetary train at least one of the gears must revolve around another gear in the gear train.

In the solar system the planets revolve around the sun. Gravity holds them all together. A spur gear differential constructed by engaging the planet gears of two co-axial epicyclic gear trains.

The casing is the carrier for this planetary gear train. In an epicyclic gear train , the axes of the shafts, over which the gears are mounte move relative to a fixed axis.

A simple epicyclic gear train is shown in Fig. Epicyclic equipping is utilized here to allow torque unevenly. Adjusting for a pitch radius difference of, say, 3:.

The force at the second ring gear mesh from the output torque on the ring gear. But in case of epicyclic gear trains, the axes of the shafts on which the gears are mounted may move relative to a fixed axis. Simple Gear Train : When there is only one gear on each shaft, as shown in Fig.

The gears are represented by their pitch circles. These speeds are obtainable by meshing sun, planet and ring gears alternatively. Unsubscribe from jacques maurel? High reduction ratio planetary gear drive model - Duration: 6:46. Matt Keveney 68views.

A = Size of driving gear use either number of teeth or pitch diameter. Note: When follower derives its motion both from A and from a secondary driving member, A = size of initial driving gear , and formula gives speed relationship between A and follower. A planetary or epicyclic gear train is one type of gear train used to transmit motion. The circulation of the spur gear takes place in analogy to the orbiting of the planets in the solar system. The epicyclic gear train consists of an input planetary carrier, which supports three sets of double planetary gears, and the input forward clutch plates.

Surrounding the planetary gears is an internally toothed annulus gear which also supports the rotating reverse brake plates.

A gear train having a relative motion of axes is called a planetary or an epicyclic gear train. Try to understand with this example Consider two gear wheels S and P,the axes. STEP All moving parts of the train are locked with respect to each other. STEP The arm is fixe and the sun gear is given one negative turn (CW).

STEP For Step we simply superimpose the two effects of Step and Step 2. Choosing which piece plays which role determines the gear ratio for the gearset. One of the planetary gearsets from our transmission has a ring gear with teeth and a sun gear with teeth. Requires an HTML 5-compliant browser. Gear teeth are designed to ensure the pitch circles of engaging gears roll on each other without slipping, providing a smooth transmission of rotation from one gear to the next.

A gear train is a mechanical system formed by mounting gears on a frame so the teeth of the gears engage. Planetary Gear Trains are extensively used for the power transmission and are the most critical component.
